St Matthew’s, New Waltham
St Matthew’s is a welcoming congregation that is small enough to make friends and get involved quickly, but large enough to offer privacy and space if that is what you seek.
Worship is relaxed and prayerful. Children and young people are always welcome. The congregation has strong ties with the local Methodist Congregation, and while the current clergy situation means that we are not formally sharing worship, many of the congregation worship at the Methodist Church the second Sunday of the month.
St Matthew’s has a wonderfully flexible building that offers both sacred space and space for community use. If you would like to use the church for a community event or class, please contact us for more information.
1st & 3rd Sundays – 9 am Eucharist
4th Sundays – 11 am Morning Prayer
Cake, Quiet & Compline – Tuesdays 7 – 9 pm
On Tuesday Evenings, St Matthew’s offers respite from all the pressures of the week.
From 7 – 7.30, we gather for cake and conversation.
From 7.30 – 8.30 (or 8 pm during COVID) there is silence.
At 8.30 pm (or 8 pm during COVID) we re-gather for Compline (night prayer)
The experience of shared silence is rare and can be very powerful. You are welcome to bring a book to read, or some quiet crafts, or just sit and enjoy the peace.
St Matthew’s follows the old custom of keeping silence after Compline. We therefore leave in silence — either immediately after Compline, or after some silent dish washing.
The weekly coffee morning will be resuming in May, 2022.
Saturdays, 10 am – 12 pm
Coffee, cake and conversation.
There is no admission price, but there is a requested donation of £2. The money raised is being saved for a new altar frontal for Easter and Christmas.
